Last Friday the Year 8 debating team travelled to Gorokan High School to participate in the Regional semi-final and final of the Premier's Debating Challenge. Kiera Hayden, Alena Payne, Sofia Davey and India Bishop represented the school admirably.
The team first debated "that Australia should accept more refugees" and had to take the negative side against Wadalba Community School. Despite the difficult topic the girls were successful and made it through to the next round.
In the next round the team debated "that we should ban single sex schools". They were on the affirmative side of the argument against the Hunter School of the Performing Arts. Despite their strong arguments, they were narrowly defeated after a nail-biting wait as the adjudicator finalised his decision.
The adjudicator and teachers commended the team on their considerably improved debating skills and provided some helpful feedback for the future. I wouldn't suggest entering into an argument with these girls!
