Many years ago a high percentage of students left school at the end of Year 10. In some schools a 'Formal' was held to farewell these young people. In more recent times, with the change to the school leaving age and the abolition of the School Certificate, the idea of a formal and a graduation has become meaningless. In fact only two students ( 2 out of 175) have indicated that they are leaving school next year.
At the completion of their senior studies and the HSC the Kotara High School Graduation and Formal are held to mark the end of their formal schooling.
