Course Description: Year 9 Stage 5.2/5.3 Mathematics
The 5.2/5.3 Mathematics Course is for students who have shown an aptitude for Mathematics during their study of stage 4 (Years 7 and 8). The course will prepare students to study either General Mathematics or Mathematics and Extension Mathematics in Year 11. There are five main areas of study: Number; Patterns and Algebra; Data; Measurement; and Space and Geometry. Working Mathematically processes are embedded in the content of each area and focus on Questioning, Applying strategies, Communicating, Reasoning and Reflection.
This is designed as a two year course and some concepts covered early will be further developed later. It is important that students make a serious effort from the beginning of Year 9.
