Course Description: Year 9 Mathematics
The Mathematics Courses 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3 for the Australian Curriculum cater to all students who have completed their study of stage 4 (Years 7 and 8) Mathematics. There are three main areas of study called strands. They comprise Number and Algebra; Statistics and Probability and Measurement and Geometry. Working Mathematically processes are embedded in the content of each area. These encourage students to develop understanding and fluency in mathematics through inquiry, exploring and connecting mathematical concepts, choosing and applying problem-solving skills and mathematical techniques, communication and reasoning.
This is designed as a two year course and some concepts covered early in the course will be further developed later. It is important that students make a serious effort from the beginning of Year 9.
