Students' Work Books / Laptops

With the introduction of the DER laptops in Year 9 (2009) and Year 9 (2010) we are in a period of transition with regard to the use of exercise books as a means of recording the students' class work, particularly in Years 9 and 10 for 2010.   The Science Department originally thought that all students would prefer to use their laptops as a means of recording their class work but this has not been the case.   We currently have some students still using the "old" book system, while others have embraced the opportunity to make greater use of the new technology.

Therefore, the information which follows below refers to Years 7 and 8 and to those students in Years 9 and 10 who are still choosing to use an exercise book.   References to glueing sheets into books should be replaced by "saving the file to your computer".

The Science Department expects each student to arrive at each lesson fully equipped to participate in class activities.  This means that each student is expected to bring an exercise book, blue or black pen, red pen, ruler, pencil and eraser.

The Science Department encourages students to purchase TWO exercise books.   One is used for the first semester and then left with the class teacher.   The second book is used for the second semester.   This is particularly useful for students in Years 9 and 10 as they change teachers at the end of semester one.   Teachers return semester one books to students around the time that students are beginning to prepare for their yearly exams.

Students are also expected to use a plastic display folder for submitting weekly homework sheets.

These requirements are set out in a letter which students are given at the commencement of semester one.   This letter should be glued onto the first page of each student's work book.   If the letter is missing, a copy can be obtained by using the links below.
